Excerpts From the Book

From Chapter V Section B From Fish to Frog

Many theories suggest that amphibians, such as frogs, evolved from fish. There were, and still are, many barriers in place that would make it extremely difficult for a fish to make the transition from an underwater habitat to a land-based habitat. For example, fish have fins. Fins are not intended for walking, only swimming. In order for a fish to survive on land, it would need feet. Fish also have gills. Gills allow fish to filter and absorb the water's oxygen content. In order for a fish to make a successful transition to land, it would need lungs in order to inhale atmospheric oxygen (O2) and to exhale carbon dioxide (CO2). The SDP Model will be applied to this scenario in order to provide a tangible analysis of how an extraordinary evolutionary process such as this one took place.

Background
Approximately 570 million years ago, vertebrate animals (animals with backbones) began to evolve into a variety of fishlike animals. Two hundred million years later, these fishlike animals inhabited lakes, rivers, lagoons, and estuaries. During the later part of the Devonian period, these fishlike animals began to develop limbs with digits, such as fingers and toes. The fishlike animals that developed limbs with digits are known as tetrapods. A tetrapod is any vertebrate animal that has four legs or any vertebrate animal that is a descendant of an animal with four legs.

From Chapter V Section E Illegal Markets

The Market for Contract Killers
Contract killing has existed in one form or another throughout history. Contract killing usually occurs as a scenario in which two parties enter into an agreement where one person agrees to kill a pre-identified person or persons on behalf of another person in exchange for some form of compensation (typically money). Throughout history, people have hired contract killers for reasons that vary greatly. Many people can relate to the typical scenario of someone, such as a mob boss, ordering somebody to be “whacked.” The Mafia typically makes use of contract killers in order to secure an alibi. That way the individuals who want somebody dead can make sure they are in a public setting where many people can attest to their whereabouts when the murder is to take place, thus, prematurely removing themselves from a list of primary suspects. The fact remains that contract killers have existed throughout time simply because people have demanded their services. Contract killers have always had an incentive to supply their services because there has always been a demand for them.
